I have many friends who are active bloggers and I have been dragged reluctantly into writing blog posts for my firm. Admittedly, I had always previously thought that blogging was such a self indulgent activity, and I suppose that I still think so.
On the upside, blogging is a bit like being a columnist in sharing a personal perspective with the world, the only differences being the rate of pay and the size of the audience. Hopefully, the size of the audience will grow. I find it unlikely that the pay rate will change.
So why did I decide to start blogging? I have an unreasonable number of opinions, far more than should be allocated to any one person. Recently, a friend of mine sent me a YouTube video that was so disturbing that I could not sleep and I got up out of bed after midnight and set myself up on WordPress.
The video was on the fur trade in China and the plight of the animals victimized by that industry. I am not so naive as to believe that I can change the world in a grandiose sense, but if I can get one person to care about them who did not care before, then I will have changed it a little bit, and this will be a rewarding experience.
But that takes me back to my abundance of opinions, because I don’t care only about the animals being tortured in the fur industry. I care about the plight of children everywhere. I care about animals in the United States. I care about the environment. When I started to count the things about which I care, I realized that it was a very long list.
And so I decided to share my opinions with those of you who choose to wander in and linger for a while.
Welcome.
Erika
The World need lots of curageous people. If each one changes just ONE other person a time, this will make many more people with an improved awareness.
Erika,
I found your blog very intersting and agree with you on all points. I will admit to not being brave enough to watch the video. The opening picture was enough. Thank you for sharing this and I will pass this on to my friends.
